DENON AVR-5308Ci(A)

Denon says the AVR-5308CI is the first AV receiver to be certified for use with Windows Vista. It's even got the little Vista sticker on the front (along with a whole bunch of other stickers AV manufacturers tend to cover their products with, just like computer makers!). The 5380CI has integrated Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity, as well as the ability to stream images and display metadata from an iPod, iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc. Besides the ability to connect to a home network of Macs and PCs, Wi-Fi and Ethernet allows customers to get the receiver diagnosed by a professional without him or her ever setting foot in your home. With remote maintenance, the custom installer logs into Denon's Product Management Server where he/she can "diagnose, correct, update, and remotely perform maintenance on the unitÓ and, Òin case of error or lost settings, the custom integrator can remotely restore all of a customerÕs settings from their office." The installer only sees selected info about your equipment and has no access to other machines on your network, according to Denon. The 5308CI's multi-zone feature lets you stream audio to various rooms in your home. So while you're watching a DVD in the living room, another person can access the radio in another room, all streamed from the receiver (you can even browse a connected iPod). The 5308CI can stream MP3, AAC, WMA Lossless, WAV, and FLAC files from DLNA servers (like DLNA-certified network-attached-storage devices), Windows Media Connect on your PC (even DRM files), and iTunes (using Twonky Media, but not DRM files you've purchased from the iTunes store). You can also tune into Internet radio or the Rhapsody Music Service without having to go through a PC. With a new graphical user interface (GUI), the menu is easy to navigate and itÕll display metadata and album artwork. You can also stream JPEG images. There are also USB ports that support external hard drives. The receiver supports HDMI 1.3a with Dolby TrueHD and dtsHD decoding, analog to HDMI conversion through the 1080p Scalar with Realta HQV chipset, and XM-HD radio and HD Radio.
